Firm Profile and Background

Alistair MacKinlay, the principal of MacKinlays Solicitors has been practising law since 1973 in a wide range of areas. He is a graduate of the University of Western Australia.

Alistair has realised in this cost conscious age that the last thing a client wants is exposure to large legal costs without any return. As a result MacKinlays have developed an approach that provides clients cost effective solutions to legal problems The firm's policy on any new instructions on legal issues is to consider the prospects of success and the risk/reward ratio. The instructions can then be adjusted to suit the client's budget and expectations.

MacKinlays have extensive experience acting as general corporate counsel as well as in a wide range of general commercial work in real estate, insolvency, debt recovery for private and government institutions, securities law, intellectual property and franchises. Some of the work has included briefing specialist firms and agents and supervising costs incurred by other legal practitioners. This has had the benefit of allowing the firm to see cost and legal management issues through the client's eyes.

Alistair is also experienced in commercial litigation and is an accredited Supreme Court Mediator. Experience in this area includes acting in a wide range of engineering and building disputes, contractual arbitration, and litigation and large scale negligence, Intellectual Property and Trade Practice actions.

Currently Alistair is a director of a number of companies including Public Companies. He was a past Committee Member and Member of the Council of the Law Society in Western Australia.

Its associated firm Ronson MacKinlay Conveyancers provides conveyancing services for both property and businesse transfers at competitive prices to settlement Agents whilst also providing full legal advice.

The firm has formed close associations with overseas firms of lawyers and has access to a wide range of specialists pre-eminent in their particular area in relation to matters such as GST, income tax and intellectual property.

The firm's fees are by negotiation. Long term clients can benefit considerably from negotiated rate reductions including undertaking work on a fixed fee basis on matters such as debt collections conveyancing and mortgages.
